Letter from our President

Dr WolfeIt is my pleasure to invite you to the 28th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at the beautiful Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando Florida June 12-17. Each year the ASMBS Annual Meeting proves better than the year before and 2011 will be no exception. As always, you’ll acquire a more comprehensive view of the research, legislation, and industry that are impacting the bariatric profession today and experience presentations that enhance your professional acuity on these hot topics.

This year’s program committee, under the direction of Marc Bessler, MD, has developed a wide range of presentations and learning opportunities that are relevant, engaging and interactive including new pre-congress courses that touch on everything from professional liability and practice optimization to research and publication, expanded skills labs and a plenary session designed to engage and involve you personally with key opinion leaders. Lively debates, hot topic symposiums and sessions that foster collaboration mean more interaction between you, the speakers and your peers.

Also new in 2011 is a full-day Emerging Technologies Session. On Friday, June 17th physicians, industry scientists and engineers will present their latest work showcasing new devices, technologies and techniques – many of which are debuting at this year’s conference and are being assembled collectively for this very exciting session.

This year’s keynote speakers Michelle Mello, JD, PhD, James Levine, MD, PhD, and Allan Zuckoff, PhD specialize in areas such as issues at the intersection of law, ethics, and health policy, practical weight loss solutions based on physical activity research, and motivational interviewing for adherence to treatment.

Equally as valuable are the opportunities for networking and interaction with other bariatric professionals during the Welcome Reception, the ASMBS Foundation’s “Masters Course in Fun” annual fundraiser, and throughout the exhibit hall as you visit with industry partners and explore the best new products available to you and your patients.

The 2011 conference has been strategically designed to cultivate professional enrichment on a personal level. I look forward to seeing each of you there.

Best regards,

Dr Wolfe
